New chair!
FOBS has a new chairperson. Caroline Gratwick has taken over from Becky Sykes, who recently became a school governor.
So, what exactly is FOBS?
FOBS (Friends of Buckingham Park School) is a group of (mainly) parents that puts on events such as the Summer and Christmas Fairs to raise money to buy equipment for the school.
The children really look forward to the events and get huge enjoyment from the equipment we provide. Recent purchases include the play trail, a climbing wall in the playground and decking for the area around the pond.
Please come along to one of our meetings. Some are held during the day and some are held in the evening, to give everyone a chance to be involved. Don't be afraid - you don't have to volunteer anything other than your opinion if you don't want to.
What does being a member of FOBS mean?
All parents automatically become members of FOBS when their children join the school. It is not a ready-made organisation, as its success depends entirely on your support. There are many ways you could be involved, depending on how much time/energy you can spare. Maybe you could:
- Bring friends and family along to events
- Donate specific items when requested (eg wine or chocolate for a tombola, raffle prizes, old toys for stalls, etc.)
- Bake or buy cakes to be sold at events
- Team together with some other parents to help run a stall at an event
- Help set up an event or clear up afterwards
- Fold raffle tickets
- Wrap Christmas presents
- Come to meetings and be involved in organising events
- Raise money for the school by clicking through from www.easyfundraising.org.uk if you shop online
- Or perhaps you work for a company that could help out in some way – just let us know. Some companies offer to match funds raised by their employees. Barclays has been particularly generous in the past.
Who runs FOBS?
FOBS is run by a committee, including:
Chair: Caroline Gratwick (Year 1 parenet)
Secretary: Shay Heasman (School Office)
Any ideas?
FOBS is always open to new fund raising ideas and welcomes any suggestions. It could be an idea for a stall at the fair or a suggestion for a whole event. Current suggestions being explored include a Bingo Night, Ladies' Pamper Evening, Race Night and Barn Dance.
Easy fundraising...
Do you ever shop online? If so, you can raise money for the school by registering with www.easyfundraising.org.uk and clicking through to your usual websites. For example, M&S will donate 5% of purchase price to the school. It's worth doing!
