What is FOBS?
The Friends of Buckingham School (FOBS) is a charity fundraising committee run by parents of children in the school and staff. It helps provide some of those extras that enhance the children's lives in school. Right now it's working to raise money to buy outdoor play equipment.
Fundraising events take place throughout the year and have recently included:
- Summer & Christmas Fairs
- A Bingo night
- Discos
- Children’s film screenings
In 2009 money raised by FOBS paid for the new climbing wall in the playground and the decking around the pond in the wildlife area.
Who are FOBS?
All parents automatically become members of FOBS when their child joins the school. It is not a ready-made organisation – there is huge potential for you to get involved and help to not only raise money but also to create events that your children will remember for the rest of their lives!
It is run by a committee, including:
Chair: Becky Sykes (Year 1 parent)
Secretary: Shay Heasman (School Office)
Treasurer: Julie Thompson (Year 5 parent)
How can you help?
The success of FOBS depends entirely on the support of parents, staff and the community. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. This can range from a little time spent helping out in the background, to bringing friends and family along to events or by joining the committee.
Donations play a very big role in fundraising efforts: not just the important wine and chocolate for the summer fair tombola, but also prize donations for raffles and competitions, time spent wrapping Christmas presents or running a stall at an event.
Maybe you work for a company that discards goods when they can’t be sold or could negotiate a great price for items that can be sold or put in a lucky dip?
Any ideas?
FOBS is always open to new fund raising ideas and welcomes any suggestions. It could be an idea for a stall at the summer fair or a suggestion for a whole event. Current suggestions being explored include a Car Boot Sale, Easter Bonnet Parade, Family Choir Event and a sponsored sports event to raise money for sporting equipment.
