Pupils Attend Holocaust Memorial
On 27th January, pupils from Year 6 attended a memorial service at St Mary de Haura Church in Shoreham to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz prison. Members of Adur District Council, The British Legion, clergy from surrounding churches and representatives from the Jewish community were also in attendance. Our pupils placed white roses on the altar during the service and then laid white roses and pebbles on the war memorial adjacent to the church.
Kung Hai Fat Choy!
On Saturday 6th February, Mr Aylward, Mrs Davies (Governor), Mrs Crook and Mrs Thomas represented our school at a celebration of Chinese New Year at Hove Town Hall. As well as taking along an exhibition of work and photographs that the children in Year 3 had made, they also offered a range of Chinese activities for children visiting the event. They set up paper dragon making, folding paper (origami or zhi-zhi) and red envelope making with gifts of lucky money inside. They were kept busy all day as crowds of children headed to their tables. It was great to see some of our own children and parents supporting the event. A big thank you to all those who were able to make it.
The first visitors to our activity tables were Mr Ian Lowrie, Chief Executive of Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils and his wife. Mr Lowrie patiently followed the instructions to make a Samurai Warrior's hat from folded paper whilst Mrs Lowrie tried her hand at writing Chinese characters on her folded red envelope.
