Welcome to the Governors' section!
Simon Gale
I have been a governor for over ten years now at three schools, two junior and one senior. Over this time I have found the whole experience demanding, challenging, but most of all enjoyable. I work for BAA Ltd who operate seven airports in the UK. My background is in Engineering, Electronics and IT systems, over the years with BAA I have had a number of key team roles. Based at Gatwick and Heathrow looking after the systems infrastructure across BAA, this means travelling around all the airports regularly. I really enjoy helping in the school environment, the areas where I can add most value to the school are in finance, premises and organisation. It’s nice to be able to give something back to the school in these very important areas.

I have over three years experience of being a parent governor previously with Shoreham First School and Buckingham Community Middle School. I was the Chair of the Temporary Governing Body that helped make all the arrangements for the merger of Buckingham Community Middle School and Kingston Buci First School to create Buckingham Park Primary School. I am delighted to be the Chair of Governors for our school working with a team of governors dedicated to supporting and challenging the school to achieve the very best for the children. I have already had one child go through Buckingham and have two more currently at the school so I have a big interest in its success. I am lucky that my employer HSBC supports me with time off to carry out my governor duties and I get into school at least once a week. At HSBC I look after a team of 43 people serving some of our smaller business clients and I like to think that a number of the skills that I use in my working life are transferable to helping out in the school environment. I am a huge fan of Shoreham as a place to live and I am very pleased to be able to get involved in such an important part of our community.

I have been a parent governor at Buckingham Park Primary since my children joined the school last year – both my daughters are in Year 4. I work in public affairs for the environment charity the Woodland Trust and was previously a journalist. I am particularly keen to see good two-way communication between the school and parents and I am also interested in the development of the school’s outdoor environment, its work on becoming a ‘healthy school’ and ways in which the school’s environmental impact can be reduced.
I sit on the School Travel Plan group and the Quality and Standards Committee.
